(i posted it on social media yesterday and am leaving here as is for the future record. i have a lot of thoughts i want to share about my time founding Prescient Design, joining Genentech/Toche and staying there for more than four years, but i will age them a bit further and share them over a long period …)
According to Statistics Korea, the remaining life expectancy of a 41-year-old Korean male is about 41 years. In other words, I’m statistically at the turning point of my life. and, at this point, i’m wrapping up one of my most memorable and fond chapters of my career. My last day at Prescient Design/Genentech/Roche will be this coming Friday (Jan 16 2026).
I will be fully back at NYU from then on. This will give me an opportunity to provide my students their due attention and think of higher education in this new era of artificial intelligence. I will continue conversations with a broad spectrum of AI researchers, developers, entrepreneurs and users, in order to broaden my views and deepen my thoughts. Also, I will spend time thinking about the remaining half of my life (on average.)
What a ride … what a ride it has been!
p.s. If there is anything i need to take care of together with you while at Genentech, please reach out to me as soon as possible so that we can sort them out before this Friday.
